Welcome! Perhaps you’re curious about your practitioner. For one thing, before I began doing this work I was a musician. Why is that relevant to acupuncture? It’s my belief that a truly effective healer has to be part scientist and part artist. After getting successful treatment for insomnia and anxiety with acupuncture, I dived into a four-year graduate program in Chinese medicine. I completed that program in 1995 and soon was working at an integrative pain management clinic seeing 100 patients a week. In 2005 I studied hypnosis and Neuro-Linguistic Programming so that I would be able to treat trauma, anxiety and insomnia among other mind-based issues.
While acupuncture is still my go-to modality, I routinely utilize herbs, hypnosis and hormonal balancing as needed. Given the volume of environmental toxins in our lives, I incorporated Functional Medicine into my protocol. In this way we can diminish the impact of heavy metals, immune suppressants, toxic chemicals and food allergies.
A few work highlights: I’ve done a good deal of post-graduate studies, taught at university, opened an HIV clinic in the 90’s worked with hedge-fund managers and in halfway houses with women who had been damaged by drugs. As a specialist in sleep disorders, I often lecture on the diverse ways people heal from insomnia.
Oh, and I still play my old Gibson guitar.

When you’ve been at one career for twenty-four years, there’s a tendency to get stale. In my case, the opposite has been true. The more I delve into Chinese medicine, and the psyche via hypnotherapy, the more I love the work. Certainly, people are endlessly fascinating, but couple that with the depth of 3,000 year-old Chinese medicine, and a good practitioner never never stops learning. I liken it diving into the ocean and imagining one knows water: the medicine is vast, constantly unfolding, and alive with beauty and mystery.
When a new patient shares with me the reason for their visit, they too are a mystery. My training gives me a template for how I will work to unravel that mystery. Luckily Chinese medicine provides us with a deep and powerful foundation from which to work. And often, as I follow the clues, the patient’s issues tend to resolve.
The Blue Phoenix philosophy is simple:
I believe that a practitioner’s ability to help another person is defined by the tools at their disposal. For that reason, I use acupuncture, herbs, hypnosis (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) and hormonal balancing. We all know that today’s stressors are everywhere and require new methods of treatment. Among the tools we use are targeted supplements that help with detoxification from Heavy Metals, chemical, food allergies and immune-suppressants. The next step is to find the way that will most help the person heal.
This is our pledge to you: It is our job to be there for you. And you will always in control of your treatment process. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
