How Does Acupuncture Treat Insomnia Naturally, and How Can it Help Me?

The way a doctor of acupuncture works is to first analyze what the imbalance in your body is. In this way,  seemingly unrelated symptoms lead us to create a treatment strategy wherein we use acupuncture, Chinese herbs, and supplements to diminish all the reasons the insomnia. In this way we can address many of the standard forms of dysfunction including Onset insomnia, Acute, Organ, Substance based, psycho-physiologically based (wherein the person believes they have slept less hours than they actually have slept) and so on.

The most common patterns (and yours will fit one or more of these):
Difficulty falling asleep; feeling wide-awake at bedtime but listless during the day; anxiety; palpitations; forgetfulness.
Difficulty sleeping; agitation; chest discomfort; dry throat;
Difficulty going back to sleep. Excessive dreaming, easily angered, chest pain/fullness, agitation/depression
Poor, restless sleep. Dizziness; blurry vision, heaviness in head, palpitations.

Most people have insomnia and other underlying symptoms as well. Thus we treat the symptom and and its underlying cause in order that the body can truly repair itself.

When you get acupuncture to treat insomnia naturally it involves extremely shallow insertion in the skin of between 4 and 12 tiny sterile pins, that are used once and thrown away.

How we know where to put the pins.

You see, we have a map of the body that tells us what area to target. It’s not unlike have a roadmap or grid of a city where the lights are so we can repair them.
Acupuncture treats insomnia naturally partly by stimulating the body’s own chemicals such as endorphin to invoke a feeling of deep calm and relaxation. This sense of wellbeing often carries over into sleep time and begins to retrain the body, and mind, to sleep. There are times when we diagnose a hormonal imbalance such as Adrenal Fatigue (quite common in insomnia patients–imagine walking around all day fatigued and not knowing why: we can help there).  Or we might diagnose toxicity in the liver (again, considering the pollution of food with chemicals and heavy metals, that is not out of the question). We are able to address all these issues and more using acupuncture to treat insomnia naturally.

How Does Acupuncture to Treat Insomnia Work for Anxiety

Acupuncture treats insomnia naturally by short circuiting the underlying stressors that lead to it like anxiety. And while it’s true that life has many ways to intrude on one’s sleep–we can’t fix an unhappy relationship, loss of home or partner, or all health problems–what acupuncture can do with a great deal of success is to assist the body to overtake the mind’s intensity, without resorting to medication. Dr. Bernstein has been in the forefront of sleep hygiene for over twenty years and is a renowned author with his book, Rewired for Sleep: The 28 Day Insomnia Repair Program.
